Product Review: LCD Timer Remote

Product Review: LCD Timer Remote for Canon (G10 G11 60D 350D, 300D, 400D, 450D, 500D, 550D, 600D, 1000D, 1100D, EOS 10D 20D 30D D30 40D 50D 1D 1Ds 5D 7D and also can be used with a Pentax K20D,K20D,K110D,K100,K200D)

Now I say this review is for a Canon camera, but in fact you can get it for different unofficial timer remotes for different camera makes.

This review is to highlight the fact you don’t have to buy an official timer (which can cost around £100-140!) and to give you a quick review of a product I bought and tried out last weekend.

The Look:

The product feels definitely more ‘plastic’ compared to the official Canon TC 80N buttons maybe not as firm when pressed but everything works fine as intended. The timer also has a LCD light which will help you lots if you plan on doing some night time lapses. The main button also has a latch to that you can shoot longer exposures.

The menu system is pretty easy to use and easily explained in the manual, When setting it up for time lapse style shooting it will also autofocus the camera two seconds before the shot is taken if that’s what you want. Otherwise leave the lens on manual focus and it won’t.

The timer uses AAA batteries which can be put in the back. So far I’ve used the timer for around 12hrs and haven’t needed to change them.

The only downsides that I can tell is although the timer works fine the digital display ‘sometimes’ lags, now I’ve heard this from friends but haven’t actually experienced it yet, but have been told that it doesn’t effect your time lapse projects unless you were looking for SUPER accuracy (down to the split second etc)

Here is a quick draft of the time lapse I did last weekend, nothing fancy I just wanted to a quick test. Well I say quick test… it was about 6-7 hrs worth of shots!

Overall

Very impressed with this timer, good overall response and the battery life has been excellent. The official Canon version costs £116 off amazon but at £24.99 the BV-Electronics LCD timer remote can do the job just as well at a snitch of the price!

Rating: 4/5
